About
The Lucinda Hickory Research Institute’s logo is a powerful symbol of the pain, resilience, and justice sought in uncovering the history of our Mvskoke ancestors. The arrow, stained with the deep red of blood, speaks to the trauma that has been passed down through generations—trauma born from the bloodshed, tears, and heartache of those who came before us. For me, this history is written in blood, not just as a record of what has happened, but as a driving force in my work. It embodies the righteous anger that fuels my pursuit of truth and justice.
This logo is not a call to violence, but rather a symbol of rage tempered with humanity. It represents the understanding that one can feel immense anger and pain without resorting to violence. Instead, that energy is channeled into telling the story, sharing the history, and seeking justice for those who were wronged. The arrow, sharp and direct, serves as a metaphor for the precision and focus with which I approach this work. It’s a reminder that, while fueled by anger, the quest for justice must always proceed with caution and care.
This logo, in its stark imagery, stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Mvskoke people and the ongoing effort to bring their stories to light. It is a symbol of both the deep wounds of the past and the relentless pursuit of truth in the present.
